The Toffees were crushed 6-1 by Arsene Wenger's side on the opening day of the Premiership. It was the first time since 1958 that they conceded six at Goodison, and their defence was in shambles as Arsenal ran riot. Substitute Louis Saha fired past Manuel Almunia late in the game, but it was nothing but scant consolation. The heavy defeat means that Everton's game against Sigma Olomuc has assumed greater importance.

Everton captain Phil Neville has said that his side will put behind the memory of the hiding given to them by the Gunners and come up with an improved performance against Sigma. The likes of Marouane Fellaini, Steven Pienaar and Jo need to fire if Everton are to take an advantage into the second leg.

Sigma are no pushovers either. The Hanaci beat Icelandic side Fram 3-1 in the second qualifying round, and followed it up with a 8-1 demolition of Scottish Premier League outfit Aberdeen in the third qualifying round. Striker Michal Hubnik has scored in three of the four games Sigma have played in Europe this year.

Sigma drew 1-1 with Bohemians in their weekend Czech Liga game. Michal Ordos gave Sigma the lead on 18 minutes, but his goal was cancelled out by Jan Stohanzl's strike eight minutes later. Sigma have now picked up five points from four league games this season.
