Everton will be confident of clinching this tie as they came through a stern test from Liverpool in the fourth round and then overcame Aston Villa in the fifth. The Toffees clinched the tie 3-1 with goals from Jack Rodwell, Mikel Arteta and Tim Cahill cancelling out James Milner's goal.

Both teams had a spot kick in the game with Villa winning one after Gabriel Agbonlahor was fouled by Tony Hibbert, while Everton's third goal came from the spot after Steve Sidwell brought down Victor Anichebe in the penalty area. The win meant Everton made it past the fifth round stage in the FA Cup for the first time since 2002. Manager David Moyes will be delighted with his side's progress and will hope they can make it all the way to Wembley this year. However injuries have taken their toll on Everton with Mikel Arteta out for the rest of the season, while Tony Hibbert is out for a month with a thigh injury. Ayegbeni Yakubu, James Vaughan and Nuno Valente continue to be long-term absentees.

 

 

Meanwhile Middlesbrough's euphoria post their 2-0 win over Liverpool in the league was doused abruptly when they lost 4-0 to Tottenham during the midweek. With survival in the league the club's main priority, manager Gareth Southgate may well opt to rest a few tired legs for this encounter. Boro beat West Ham 2-0 in the fifth round with goals from Stewart Downing and Tuncay Sanli sending the Hammers out of the competition.
