League Two side Rochdale were next, and David Moyes' side prevailed 4-1 at Spotland stadium. A wonder strike from Ariel Ortega condemned the Toffees to defeat in Canada against River Plate. They then beat the MLS All Stars side 4-3 on penalties before returning home and drawing 2-2 with Coventry and losing 2-1 to Blackpool. Brazilian striker Jo scored his third goal of the season against Blackpool, but had to hobble off with an injury fifteen minutes from time. Unfortunately for Malaga, they were comprehensively beaten by Mexican side Atlante after their win over Villa, and therefore were knocked out of the Peace Cup in the first round. Former Newcastle and Deportivo forward Albert Luque has arrived on a free transfer from Ajax Amsterdam. Young Villareal midfielder Jordi Pablo is another recent arrival at La Rosaleda.
