An unbeaten start to the season has seen Liverpool collect 11 points from their first five matches and are just two points behind league leaders Arsenal who play later in the day. Manager Rafa Benitez will be looking to repeat last season's performance that saw Liverpool do the double over their city rivals, beating Everton by one goal margins in both the matches.

 

 

Liverpool will be looking to improve on their dismal performance against Stoke City from last weekend when they were held to a 0-0 draw at Anfield. Benitez will be viewing the result as two points lost and lay the blame squarely on the linesman who bizarrely ruled out Steven Gerrard's goal from a free kick claiming that Dirk Kuyt was offside.

Meanwhile Everton will be hoping to put up a good performance this weekend after narrowly avoiding defeat against Hull City last Saturday. Hull looked on course for a comfortable victory by taking a 2-0 lead but Tim Cahill scored a somewhat controversial goal that was deemed to have bounced over the goal line while Leon Osman grabbed the equalizer 12 minutes from full time.

 

 

Manager David Moyes has admitted that he will have to sort out the defense ahead of Liverpool's visit this weekend with Everton having conceded 13 goals in six matches so far this season. The Toffees will be missing a number of players due to injuries with Victor Anichebe, Lars Jacobsen, Steven Pienaar and Tony Hibbert all on the treatment table.
