Atletico Madrid continued their great run of form last weekend when they beat Real Betis by 2-0. They travel up to Catalonia on Saturday to face Espanyol, so tune into Live Sport Network to see if they can continue their impressive rise up the table. Atletico are now unbeaten in eight league matches and have won four of the last five. This run of form has coincided with hated city rivals Real’s loss of form, which means Atletico have now leap-frogged them in the La Liga table and sit in fifth position with 27 points – one ahead of Real. In fact, Atletico’s last defeat actually came in the Madrid derby.

Last Sunday they faced Real Betis and ended up comfortable 2-0 winners with goals from Maxi in the first half and Aguero nine minutes from the end of the contest. This season’s jaunt in the Champions League seems to have rejuvenated them after the poor start the made and they are now well on their way to consolidating in another Champion’s League spot. Whether they can keep up this impressive form is anyone’s guess, but at the moment they appear to be one of the favourites for securing a coveted “golden ticket”.

Going into the game against Espanyol this coming weekend, they face no injury or suspension problems at all and will be in fine fettle considering their recent great run.

For their part, Espanyol come into the game on the back of a disappointing 2-1 away defeat to Valencia. Disappointing because they actually took the lead in the game but not only then proceeded to let in two goals, they had six players booked as well as Rufete being sent off in the first half. All in all, not a good day at the office. Consequently Espanyol now share second bottom place in the league with three other teams, all on thirteen points.
