Manager Fabio Capello is in the happy position of being able to choose fringe players when England take on Slovakia in an international friendly at the Wembley Stadium this Saturday. Catch all the live soccer from that game by signing up with us here on Live Sport Network.

However Capello's desire to see Ledley King in action was brutally cut off when the Tottenham defender was forced to leave the training camp due to his chronic knee injury. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp had been desperately unhappy at King's selection and had blasted Fabio Capello for picking him.

Another surprise in the England squad for the games against Slovakia and Ukraine is left-back Leighton Baines. The latter has been in fine form for Everton and his recent displays seem to have impressed the impassive Capello. Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor have been excluded from the squad after appearing in the friendly defeat against Spain. However Rio Ferdinand, who missed that game with a stomach virus, is back in the heart of the defence.

Capello has also been impressed by goalkeeper Ben Foster's showing in the recent Carling Cup final and has included the Manchester United stopper in his squad.

Meanwhile Peter Crouch and Shaun Wright-Phillips are suffering from calf and ankle injuries respectively and are doubtful starters for this game although they are expected to feature on Wednesday against Ukraine. However the core of the team including Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard are fit and should be given a workout in the match against Slovakia. Gerrard in particular has hit a rich vein of form for Liverpool and Capello will be hoping he can translate it into good form for the national side as well.

Slovakia are at the top of Group 3 in the World Cup qualifiers and are expected to make it through to South Africa. The team has gelled well in the run up to the qualifiers and Gerrard has waned his teammates about Slovakian defender Martin Skrtel, who he feels will be a tough nut to crack. Coach Jan Kocian will hope his side can test the might of England on Saturday so they can be adequately prepared to face the Czech Republic on Wednesday.
