After beating Borussia Monchengladbach in his first game in charge, Jupp Heynckes will take Bayern Munich to the Stadion der Freundschaft this weekend to take on relegation threatened Energie Cottbus. Bayern kept themselves within touching distance of league leaders Wolfsburg as they beat Gladbach 2-1 last week. First half goals from Bastian Schweinsteiger and Hamit Altintop allowed Bayern to inflict another defeat on struggling Gladbach. Bayern got the win without playmaker Franck Ribery, who was suspended after being sent off against Schalke.

Brazilian Ze Roberto and Altintop were the standout players for the Munich giants in that game. Bayern bossed possession, but were unable to score more than two goals as opposition keeper Logan Bailly kept his side in the game with some wonderful saves. Injured striker Miroslav Klose could start on the bench against Cottbus after returning to full training post ankle surgery.

Cottbus played out a goalless draw against fellow strugglers Karlsruhe last week. Die Lausitzer came under enormous pressure from Karlsruhe towards the end, but held on for a share of the spoils.

Cottbus have now picked up four points from their last two fixtures, having upset fancied Wolfsburg prior to the Karlsruhe game. However it will take some doing to beat Bayern, who thrashed them 4-1 in November. Ervin Skela gave Cottbus a shock lead, only for Bayern to hit back through Ribery and Martin Demichelis. Miroslav Klose and Luca Toni then added goals prior to the hour mark as Bayern cruised to a comfortable victory.
