El Salvador will be looking to qualify to the quarter finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup for the first time in six years when they take on Canada in their second group match on Tuesday. You can watch all the live footy from that game by signing up with us here on Live Sport Network.

The Cuscatlecos secured a shock result in their opening match against Costa Rica on Friday to move top of their group table. Osael Romero opened the scoring early in the 20th minute and though Costa Rica equalized through Warren Granados, it was El Salvador who were celebrating four minutes from the final whistle as Romero smashed home the winner.

 

 

The victory means that El Salvador needs just one point from their remaining two matches to finish at least third in the group table and have a good chance of making it to the next round. El Salvador manager Carlos de los Cobos expressed his delight at the result and said that his side will be going into the match against Canada high on confidence knowing that a win will book them a place in the next round.

Canada coach Stephen Hart too will be pleased with his side's performance in their opening match which saw them beat Jamaica 1-0 to move into pole position to qualify out of the group. Jamaica had created a number of chances in the first half but Canada put in an excellent defensive performance to deny the opposition before taking the lead through Ali Gerba in the 75th minute.

 

 

Both the teams were clubbed in the same group back in 2000 with Canada emerging triumphant with a narrow 2-1 win over El Salvador enroute to lifting their second Gold Cup trophy and Hart will be hoping for a similar ending this time around.
