After a stunning win over world champions Italy, African giants Egypt face the USA in their last Group B match in Rustenburg, knowing fully well that a win for them could result in either Brazil or Italy being knocked out of the tournament. Egypt handed Italy their first ever defeat by an African team in Johannesburg, thereby re-igniting the Pharaohs' hopes of reaching the semis after the cruel opening loss to Brazil. Mohamed Homos was the hero for Egypt, heading home from Mohamed Aboutrika's corner five minutes before half time.

Egyptian keeper Essam El Hadary was also in great form, as he made a string of saves in the second half to prevent Toni, Iaquinta and co. from equalising for Italy. A win for Egypt along with a draw or a loss for Italy will see Hasan Shehata's men qualify for the semis.

Despite losing their first two games, the United States still have an outside chance of making it to the semis. They will need to thrash the living daylights out of Egypt, preferably by five goals or more, and hope that Italy lose to Brazil. However, only an optimist would put his money on the USA at this stage of the tournament.

The USA will also be without Sacha Kljestan, who was sent off in the game against Brazil for a foul on Ramires. Skipper Landon Donovan was probably their best player on the night, but his side failed to take advantage of his well placed deliveries into the box. The defensive trio of DeMerit, Oneywu and Spector had an off day against Brazil, but will have to be on the top of their game against Egypt.
