They began with an emphatic 3-1 win over Nigeria and followed it up with a 2-0 win over Mozambique. In their final group game, Egypt won 2-0 over Benin thanks to goals from Ahmed El Mohamady and Emad Moteab. The win helped Egypt finish on top of the group with 9 points from three games. Egypt boss Hassan Shehata will be delighted with his team’s showing so far and will hope for more of the same on Monday. Regular goalkeeper Essam Al-Hadari, who was rested for the Benin game will take his place between the posts. Mohammed Zidan has recovered from a stomach bug and should feature in this game. Meanwhile Cameroon nearly had a scare before finally qualifying as runners-up in Group D. The Indomitable Lions suffered an upset 1-0 loss to Gabon in their first game, but followed it up with a hard-fought 3-2 win over Zambia. In their final group game, Cameroon came from behind to hold Tunisia to a 2-2 draw and thus set up a quarterfinal clash against Egypt. Amine Chermit had put Cameroon ahead, but Samuel Eto'o equalized only for Aurelien Chedjou to restore the advantage for the Carthage Eagles. Landry N'Guemo restored parity to enable Cameroon to finish above Gabon in Group D. Manager Paul Le Guen will be happy his side made it through, but will also be aware that they need to punch above their weight to make it through to the semifinals.
