An own goal from Dario Khan gave Egypt an unlikely lead in the 47th minute, before Mohammed Geda calmed nerves with a super strike on 81 minutes at the Estadio do Benguela. Defending champions Egypt will be eager to make it all the way not only because another win would make it three African trophies on the trot, but also to ease the pain of not being able to qualify for the summer World Cup in South Africa. Egypt coach Hassan Shehata may have one eye on the African Nations Cup quarterfinals when he names the squad to take on Benin. Hosni Abd-Rabou, Hossam Ghaly and Wael Gomaa are reportedly struggling with a viral illness and may be rested for bigger battles ahead. Meanwhile Benin bowed out of the competition after a 1-0 loss to Nigeria. Ayegbeni Yakubu scored the lone goal of the game from the penalty spot after Romuald Boco was thought to have handled Odemwingie's header in the 42nd minute. Mathematically Benin can still go through if they win against Egypt and Nigeria draw or lose to Mozambique. The Squirrels' coach Michel Dussuyer was highly disappointed after his side drew 2-2 against Mozambique in their opening game. He will hope they can surprise Egypt and still make it through to the next stage.
