A vital 1-0 victory away to Porto in their last match has put Kyiv in the driver’s seat to qualify out of the group and coach Yuri Semin will be aware that a victory on Wednesday will all but confirm his side's place in the knockout stage. Oleksandr Aliev scored the only goal of the match midway through the first half to help Kyiv to their first win in the group stage.

Should Kyiv manage to qualify for the knockout stage of the Champions League, then it will be the first time that the Ukrainian club has progressed past the group stages in nearly a decade. Kyiv last progressed out of the first group stage back in 1999-00 season where they finished third in the second group stage. Kyiv's win against Porto saw them maintain their unbeaten start to the group stage and move two points clear of the Portuguese club who are third in the group.

 

 

Porto on the other hand face a must win situation and another defeat to Jesualdo Ferreira's side will see them go at least four points clear of the qualifying places with just two matches remaining. Porto started their group stage on a confident note, beating Fenerbahce 3-1 in their first match, but have since lost two games in a row, including a 4-0 trashing away to Arsenal.

Both the teams last met in Kiev back in 1986-87 season when Porto secured a comfortable 2-1 victory to progress to the European Champion Clubs' Cup final where they beat Bayern Munich to win their first European trophy.
