Doncaster suffered their first defeat of the season on Saturday when they were beaten by Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium. Goals in either half from Sanli Tuncay and Leroy Lita allowed Boro to emerge 2-0 winners over Sean O’Driscoll’s side.

Prior to the Boro game, Doncaster had drawn all their previous Championship games. The Vikings beat Notts County in the first round of the competition thanks to James Coppinger’s second half strike. Doncaster had lost at Meadow Lane last season at the same stage, and thus gained revenge by dumping the Magpies out.

Tottenham Hotspur beat fellow London rivals West Ham United 2-1 on Sunday to make it three wins out of three in the Premiership. It took Spurs fans back to the days of Bill Nicholson, who was the last manager to guide the Lilywhites to wins in their first three league games of the season.

Spurs were disappointing in the first half at Upton Park, and went a goal behind when Carlton Cole’s fierce left footed effort flew past Carlo Cudicini. However they were gifted a route back into the game when Cole’s terrible backpass was intercepted by Jermain Defoe, who duly scored the equaliser. Winger Aaron Lennon then took advantage of a slip from Jonathan Spector and scored the winner in the 79^th minute.
