Werder Bremen will look to lift their sixth DFB Pokal when they meet Bayer Leverkusen in the finals of the German Cup at the Olympic Stadium this weekend. Watch live DFB Cup final online by subscribing to view German football live at free-football.tv.

In comparison to Werder, Bayer Leverkusen have won the trophy only once before- in 1993. Bruno Labbadia’s men were taken the distance by little known Rot Weiss Oberhausen in the first round but advanced to the second round thanks to extra time goals from Theofanis Gekas and Patrick Helmes. The second round and the pre quarterfinal games were less tight as Bayer swept past Augsburg and Energie Cottbus respectively.

Leverkusen then knocked out defending champions Bayern Munich in the last eight, and progressed to the final by beating Mainz 4-1 in the semifinals. That match saw Werkself score thrice in extra time as they brought Mainz’s fairy tale run in the competition to an end.

Werder Bremen hammered Eintracht Nordhorn 9-3 in the first round, and followed it up with 2-1 wins on the road against Erzgebirge Aue and Borussia Dortmund. Wolfsburg were crushed 5-2 in the last eight, and great north German rivals Hamburg were beaten on penalties in the last four.

Brazilian playmaker Diego will be playing his last game for Werder. He is moving to Juventus this summer. The same goes for skipper Frank Baumann, who is retiring at the end of the current season. Bremen, who have so far been trophy less, will be keen to win the DFB Pokal for these two great servants of the club.
