Ireland looked favorites to book at least a place in the play-offs after an excellent qualifying campaign but just one point from their last two games couple with maximum points for Slovenia and Czech has seen Ireland slip down to fourth in their group table and three points behind second placed Slovenia.

Nigel Worthington's side suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Slovakia in their last game with Stanislav Sestak and Filip Holosko scoring a goal in either half. With Czech and Slovenia both winning their games on Saturday, Ireland will have to win against Czech by a comfortable margin and hope that Slovenia loses heavily against minnows San Marino.

However with the Czechs hitting form at the right moment, Ireland's dreams of appearing in a World Cup is all but over for at least another four years. After a disappointing start to their campaign, Czech have collected seven points from their last three games and have given themselves a slender chance of making it to the play offs. Czech followed up their 7-0 thrashing of San Marino with a convincing 2-0 victory over Poland on Saturday. Tomas Necid opened the scoring seven minutes into the second half before Jaroslav Plasil wrapped up the points in the 73rd minute.

However that win is likely not to affect Czech's chances of making it to the play offs with Slovenia expected to secure a comfortable victory over San Marino on Wednesday. However coach Ivan Hasek will be looking to end their qualification campaign on a high and will be going all out for a victory against Ireland.
