Croatia currently have 14 points from seven games, seven less than unbeaten England, who lead the group with 21. Slaven Bilic’s men beat Belarus 3-1 in Minsk last month. Bayern Munich’s Ivica Olic scored twice, while Arsenal’s Eduardo also found the back of the net. After the Belarus game, Croatia will travel to London to take on England four days later.

Croatia will be without influential playmaker Luka Modric, who broke his right fibula in Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Birmingham City last week. Joining him on the sidelines is goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa, who has been ruled out for six months because of a knee injury.

Belarus have picked up 9 points from their six games. All three of their wins came against either Kazakhstan or Andorra, both of whom have already been eliminated. Dmitry Verkhovtsov was the sole scorer for Belarus in their 3-1 defeat at the hands of Croatia last month.

Belarus’ hopes of qualifying for South Africa 2010 took a huge blow with that defeat at home a month ago. Beating a star studded Croatian team with the likes of Eduardo, Olic, Ivan Rakitic, Darijo Srna and co. in Zagreb will be difficult for Bernd Stange’s men. A lot will depend on former Arsenal midfielder Aliksandr Hleb, who is the skipper of the national team, and Bari forward Vitali Kutuzov, who is Belarus’ second highest goal scorer of all time.
