Costa Rica coach Rene Simoes will be hoping that his side can finally snap out of a poor run of form when they welcome Uruguay in the first leg of their World Cup qualifying play-offs round on Saturday. The Ticos looked favorites to secure an automatic place in the World Cup finals next year after a great start to their CONCACAF Fourth Round qualifying campaign. However just one win in their last five matches saw the team narrowly miss the third place in the table and Costa Rica had to settle for a play offs match against Uruguay.

Alvaro Saborio top scored for Costa Rica with four goals during the fourth qualifying round and Simoes will be hoping that the Bristol City striker will be on form on Saturday. Simoes has called up Cristian Gamboa, Bryan Oviedo and Jose Mena into the squad after the trio impressed for the U20 team during Costa Rica's excellent performance during the World Youth Cup in Egypt early this month.

Meanwhile Uruguay could be without key midfielder Walter Gargano who limped off the field during Napoli's match against Catania last weekend. The 25-year old has been named in the squad to face Costa Rica but with the extent of injury yet to be known, Gargano could sit out the first leg in order to be fit in time for the second leg four days later.

Nicolas Lodeiro has been called up to the squad for the first time with the midfielder impressing coach Oscar Tabarez with a string of impressive displays for his club in the Uruguayan Apertura championship.
