Brugge recovered from a poor start in Group J to finish runners up behind holders Shakhtar Donetsk. Ivan Perisic was in great form for the Belgians during the group stage, scoring in four of their six games. Brugge have had a disappointing start to February, losing a vital game to Anderlecht and drawing against Zulte Waregem and Gent.

Like Brugge, Valencia also drew their weekend league game. Los Che were away at Gijon, and took home a point thanks to Juan Mata’s 76^th minute equaliser. Defender David Navarro is injured and will not make the trip to Belgium, while influential midfielder Ever Banega is suspended. For Brugge, young Moroccan medio Nabil Dirar is unavailable.
