For more than three seasons Chelsea looked invincible at home, rarely dropping points and going on a run of 87 matches without a defeat. However the Blues have already lost twice at home this season and have managed just three wins in their nine home games so far. Chelsea's amazing away form has come to manager Luiz Felipe Scolari's rescue this season with eight wins from their nine away matches helping the club to stay in touch with Liverpool at the top of the table.

Pressure has been steadily building on Scolari whose hopes of recruiting new players in the January transfer window has been dashed after chief executive Peter Kenyon revealed that Scolari will have to sell if he is to get cash for new players in January.

Chelsea were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw by Everton on Monday. The match was not without some controversy though as Chelsea captain John Terry was shown a straight red card by referee Philip Dowd who also ruled out a late goal by Everton.

Scolari was furious with the decision to send off Terry and the Chelsea manager banned his players and staff from commenting on the match, leaving the club spokesman to handle the situation.

 

 

West Brom will be looking to build on their late victory over Manchester City by collecting at least a point from the match against Chelsea on Friday. The Baggies clinched all three points with an injury time goal by Roman Bednar after an own goal by Scott Carson had cancelled out Luke Moore's goal in the second half.

With nearly half of the season gone, West Brom find themselves at the foot of the table, four points from safety and manager Tony Mowbray will be hoping to starting collecting points on a consistent basis as he looks to pull his side out of the drop zone before the end of the season.
