The Blues have had a mixed start to this season losing very frequently at home in an uncharacteristic manner. The arrival of new boss Luiz Felipe Scolari injected a bit of show into Chelsea’s football, but they have slipped up lately. For Southend this game offers a chance to shine in the limelight if only for a brief time. The team is currently languishing mid-table in League One and would be delighted if it can cause an upset. Southend United boss Steve Tilson will be hoping his side can take advantage of the dip in Chelsea's dominance at home and cause a flutter on Saturday.

 

 

Last season, the Shrimpers were beaten by Barnsley in the fourth round with Campbell-Ryce scoring the winner. This is another thing the club has in common with Chelsea. Southend progressed to the main draw after beating Luton Town 3-1 in the second round. Junior Stanislaus scored a brace, while James Walker scored the other goal. For Luton, the consolation came from Michael Spillane.
