Chelsea restart their quest to claim their elusive Champions League title when they welcome Portuguese champions Porto in their first group game on Tuesday. The Blues have been desperate to land the biggest trophy in European club football for the last six years and have appeared in four semi finals and a final during that period. However while they are one of the most consistent clubs to progress to the last four, Chelsea have been unable to win the trophy.

Chelsea start their group game against Porto as favorites to collect all three points. The Blues have had an excellent start to the new season, winning all of their four matches in the domestic league and have not lost a European home game in the last 18 months.

Manager Carlo Ancelotti sounded confident about his side’s chances and said the transfer ban imposed by FIFA would not affect the club’s chances in the short term.

Meanwhile Porto will be hoping to avoid a third straight away defeat to Chelsea after being on the losing end on their last two trips to Stamford Bridge. The Blues had secured a comfortable 3-1 win during the group stage of the 2004-05 season before snatching a narrow 2-1 win to progress to the quarter finals of the 2006-07 season.

With Atletico Madrid making up the third team in the group, Porto can ill afford any slip-ups if they are to progress to the knockout stage out of a difficult group. This is the seventh successive Champions League campaign for Porto and the Portuguese side has failed to make it to the knockout stage just once during that period.
