Boro are going through one of their worst run of form under manager Gareth Southgate with the club not registering a win in their last 10 matches. Just four points from their last 10 matches has seen pressure increase on Southgate and the former Middlesbrough player could find himself out of the job if he fails to turn his side's form sooner rather than later.
Middlesbrough suffered a humiliating 3-0 thrashing against West Brom in their last match with Robert Koren scoring a brace in the second half after Chris Brunt had given the Baggies an early lead. After the defeat, Southgate admitted that there will be no complaints if the Boro board sacked him after a horrendous run of form.
Chelsea on the other hand look to be finding their form after two successive wins over Southend United and Stoke City. While the Blues came very close to dropping more points at home against Stoke City last weekend, a late comeback saw them claim all three points with Frank Lampard scoring a winner deep in injury time.
Emanuel Pogatetz and Chris Riggott could be available for selection after recovering from their injuries but Justin Hoyte and Jeremie Aliadiere are still out injured. Marlon King is expected to make his debut for Boro after completing a loan move from Wigan Athletic on Saturday. Chelsea will be without Joe Cole with the midfielder out for the rest of the season with a knee injury while John Terry faces a fight to shrug off his back injury and get ready for the match.
