This week's Boxing Day live premiership action takes Aston Villa to Stamford Bridge as they look to reverse a trend of three Premier League matches without a victory. Chelsea on the other hand will be hoping to erase memories of their 1-0 loss to Arsenal in their last Premiership match.

The Blues have recovered nicely since the start of the season with new boss Avram Grant, who took over a disgruntled squad from Special One Jose Mourinho, having managed to mould a fighting outfit. Nevertheless injuries to key players have hindered Chelsea’s title bid although it is too early to write them off.

England and Chelsea skipper John Terry has suffered a fracture of his metatarsal bones and is out till early February. Chelsea are bound to miss his rock like presence in the heart of their defence. Meanwhile the club's leading goal scorer Didier Drogba is out with a knee injury as is Florent Malouda.

Chelsea were held to a 2-2 draw by Reading on boxing day last season as Didier Drogba's brace was nullified by a goal from Leroy Lita and an own goal from Michael Essien. That result was seen as a vital miss for Chelsea, which allowed Manchester United to establish a firm lead and eventually clinch the Premier League title.

Meanwhile Aston Villa meet Manchester City on Saturday and they will hope to have collected all three points in that fixture.

Manager Martin O'Neil has seen his club make an excellent start to the season only to fritter it away as the crucial Christmas and New Year action approaches. Aston Villa were lucky to escape with a 1-1 draw at Sunderland, but will need to be more consistent if they are to challenge for a European spot at the end of the season.

Going into the Chelsea clash, Villa have a couple of injury concerns. Davies has sustained a broken nose and is expected to make a comeback on December 29, while Petrov has a hamstring strain that could see him struggle to achieve fitness ahead of the match against Chelsea. Regular keeper Thomas Sorenson has been out of action since August and Scott Carson has been filling in for him.

Last Boxing Day action for Aston Villa saw the club lose 2-1 to Tottenham at White Hart Lane. Spurs misfit Jermaine Defoe scored a brace in that game and Villa's only goal came through England midfielder Gareth Barry.
