Celtic lie at the bottom of Group C with a solitary point from two games, and life could become very difficult for the Bhoys if they fail to pick up all three points against Bruno Labbadia’s men at home. Two of their three remaining games after the HSV fixture are away from home, which is why they need to make home advantage count on Thursday.

Nikica Jelavic stunned Celtic Park with his 3^rd minute opener for Rapid Vienna on Match Day 2. Jelavic latched on a pass from Stefan Hoffmann before firing past Hoops keeper Artur Boruc. However some poor defending from Rapid allowed Celtic to equalise in the 21^st minute. Andreas Dober’s careless back pass into no man’s land was seen by Scott McDonald, who evaded Ragnvald Soma’s desperate lunge before slotting home to make it 1-1. The game did not produce any further goals, and both teams had to be content with a point each.

Hamburg, who had lost to Rapid on Match Day 1, rode on the back of a brace from Marcus Berg to beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 4-2 in their last group game. Bruno Labbadia’s men could even afford a penalty miss from the experienced Ze Roberto as they picked up their first win in Group C.

HSV drew their weekend game with Bayer Leverkusen, a result that left the league positions of both teams untouched. HSV will be without injured forwards Mladen Petric and Jose Paolo Guerrero. Also on the injury list are Alex Silva, Collin Benjamin and Miroslav Stepanek and Bastian Reinhardt.
