Celtic thrashed Al Ahly Cairo 5-0 in their first game, and followed it up with a 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur. Australian striker Scott McDonald, Massimo Donati, Shaun Maloney and Chris Killen were on target against Al Ahly. McDonald made his debut for Celtic against Russian opposition, and will make his 100th appearance for the club against Dinamo. Killen opened the scoring against Spurs, heading home from a Paul Caddis cross in the 9th minute. Samaras scored the second just before half time, embarrassing Dorian Dervite before blasting home. Celtic have to play the qualifying rounds of the UEFA Champions League as they finished second behind Rangers in the Scottish Premier League last season.
Dinamo Moscow are currently fifth in the 2009 Russian Premier League. Things are not looking very good for their coach Andrey Kobelev, the youngest coach in the RPL. His side were upset in the round of 32 of the Russian Cup by little known Volgar-Gazprom-2 Astrakhan. Dinamo have struggled to find the back of the net in recent times, and their attack looks toothless if you take their top scorer Alexandsr Kerzhakov out of the equation. Dinamo captain Dmitri Khokhlov is suspended for this clash. Uruguayan midfielder Luis Aguiar is a doubt for the game. Without the millions of Alexei Fedorychev, Dinamo's squad does have talent, but is largely made up of youth and lacks experience playing at the highest level.
