After such a great run that took them within striking distance of Serie A leaders Inter Milan, Juventus have now suffered two damaging defeats in consecutive games to seriously undermine their title challenge. Last weekend Juventus suffered a body blow in their attempts at closing the gap at the top of the table. They lost for the second game running, this time at home to Cagliari, and this despite having taken a 2-1 half time lead. This was the second defeat in the space of four days for the Turin men, as they also lost away to Udinese by 2-1 last Wednesday evening. Juventus coach Claudio Ranieri is in danger of seeing all his good work of the last three months disintegrate over the course of a few days.

The team are really going to have to pull out all the stops now and try and avoid another defeat which will, effectively, end their title challenge for this season once and for all. There are still a few injuries for them to contend with, but this doesn’t appear to be an excuse for the last couple of games results, as they have been playing with a much depleted squad for almost three months now.

For their part, Catania come in to this game on the back of a 1-0 away defeat to Atalanta and now find themselves in thirteenth position in the Serie A table with 26 points to their name. They are on a bad run at the moment and haven’t won in five league games – the run including one draw and four defeats.
