Costa Rica take on Canada in a must win match on Friday with the Ticos needing to beat the group leaders with a comfortable margin if they are to have any hopes of keeping their CONCACAF Gold Cup dreams alive. A disappointing defeat in their opening group match to El Salvador left Costa Rica needing two wins from their remaining two matches in order to progress to the next round. However Canada's narrow win over El Salvador means that Costa Rica would qualify to the quarter finals if they manage to secure a better result that El Salvador with both teams tied on points and goal difference.

Needing to win against Jamaica in their last game, Costa Rica were handed a boost in the first half with their opponents being reduced to 10 men after Rudolph Austin was sent off for kicking Celso Borges in the head. Borges was once again in the thick of things with the Fredrikstad striker scoring the winner midway through the second half.

Canada on the other hand have already booked their place in the quarter finals with another narrow win in their second match. Ali Gerba once again proved the difference for Canada as his goal in the 32nd minute helped his side to a 1-0 win over El Salvador.

The win means Stephen Hart could now rest some of his key players before the quarter finals though the Canada coach will be hoping to finish the stage at the top of his group table and avoid a quarter final clash against favorites United States.
