The Indomitable Lions were pre-tournament favorites, but were unable to start their campaign on a winning note going down to unfancied Gabon by a 1-0 margin thanks to a lone goal from Daniel Cousin. The loss means Cameroon have to win their remaining two games and hope that other results in the group go their way.

The Chipolopolo or Copper Bullets had plenty of chances to grab all three points. Emmanuel Mayuka's late header found the net, but was ruled off side in what was typical of Zambia's performance in the game.

Zambia manager Herve Renard will hope his side can pull of another upset against Cameroon and thus enhance their chances of making it to the quarterfinals.
