Ruud Van Nistelrooy, then plying his trade for Manchester United, scored the only goal for the Dutch in that game against the Indomitable Lions. Van Nistelrooy converted from close range after Joris Mathijsen and Andre Ooijer had combined to set him up. Cameroon had Alioum Saidou sent off late in the fixture. The previous meeting between the two sides in 1998 had ended in a goalless draw.

Cameroon failed to make it to the 2006 World Cup but coach Paul Le Guen has managed to take the Indomitable Lions to the 2010 event. This is Cameroon’s final game in Group E, and arguably their toughest, against a team that has been billed as serious contenders to lift the trophy.
