Cameroon last met Denmark in May 2002. The Danes took the lead through Lucien Mettomo’s own goal on 20 minutes and doubled it in the second half through Jon Dahl Tommasson’s penalty. Modeste M’Bami pulled one back for Cameroon in the 74^th minute, but it was to prove little more than a consolation. The result saw the Danes take revenge for the 2-1 loss inflicted upon by them by the Indomitable Lions in June 1998.

Cameroon qualified for the World Cup by finishing winners of a group that also consisted of Gabon, Togo and Morocco. Indomitable Lions skipper Samuel Eto’o was their top scorer in African qualifying with nine goals. Cameroon lost only once in qualifying, a 1-0 reverse at the hands of Togo in March last year.
