Cameroon: Path to the finals

Cameroon finished second in Group C behind Egypt. Barcelona front man Samuel Etoo scored a brace in Cameroon's opening game in live African Cup of Nations action,. but his effort was in vain as Egypt triumphed 4-2 thanks to Abd Rabou and Mohammed Zidan both of whom scored two goals each.

It was the worst possible start for the pre-tournament favorites and Cameroon coach Otto Pfister would have torn into his side as was evident in their display in the second game against Zambia who bore the brunt of a sustained assault from Cameroon. The 5-1 win over Zambia restored wounded pride and Cameroon looked forward to qualifying for the quarterfinals.

In their final group game, Cameroon trashed Sudan 3-0 with Samuel Eto'o once again starring by scoring two goals. Cameroon finished second in Group C with 6 points from their 3 games to set up a quarter final meeting with Tunisia, who had topped Group D.

It was a tense quarterfinal meeting for Cameroon as they edged Tunisia 3-2. Only an extra time winner from Mbia ensured the Lions got through and kept alive their hopes of clinching a fifth African Nations Cup title.

In the semi-final, Cameroon kept their nerves in front of a partisan home crowd, which egged Ghana on. Cameroon sealed the game 1-0 thanks to a 71st minute goal from Alain Nkong.

Samuel Eto'o has topped the goal scoring list for the Lions with 5 goals in the tournament so far. Job, Mbia and Geremi have two goals each.

Pharaohs keep final date

Meanwhile Egypt were billed as favorites to defend their African Cup of Nations trophy, which they won in 2006 at home. The Pharaohs did not disappoint as they kept their final date with an unbeaten run in the competition.

Egypt: Path to the finals

In their last group game, Egypt were held 1-1 by Zambia and topped the group with 7 points from 3 games.

Egypt went through to the semi-finals by defeating a spirited Angola 2-1 thanks to goals from Abd Rabou and Zaki. However it was in the semi-finals that they showed their best form overcoming favorites Ivory Coast 4-1.
