Olympique Lyon will look to end their four game winless run when they meet Caen at the Michel d'Ornano Stadium on Saturday. The French champions last won in the French Ligue 1 in mid November against Bordeaux, but their excellent start to the season has ensured that they still stay three points clear of the rest of the pack. Caen squandered a two goal advantage last week at lowly Sochaux with less than fifteen minutes to go on the clock, and ended up drawing 2-2. Remi Gomis’s brace had given Caen a 2-0 lead, but Sloan Privat rescued a point for Sochaux by striking twice late in the game.

 

 

Caen are currently eleventh in the table, with 23 points from eighteen games. In nine home league games, they have won four, drawn three and lost two. In the corresponding fixture last season between these two teams, in December 2007, Caen stunned OL 1-0.

With Bordeaux, Marseille and PSG hot on their heels, Lyon need to pull their socks up in the league. Injuries to several key players have not helped their cause though, and a repeat of last year’s result could see them surrender their spot at the top as both Bordeaux and Marseille have a better goal difference.

 

 

Lyon drew 0-0 against Marseille last week in a drab fixture that produced just three shots on target. Lyon have now only managed to score once in their last four league games, an alarming statistic given their general free scoring record in France.
