Bury had a disappointing result on the opening day of the season as they crashed to a 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth. The Cherries took the lead through Brett Pitman's 17^th minute strike, and doubled it six minutes before the interval through Steve Fletcher.

Mark Molesley added a third for the visitors on the other side of the break as Bournemouth emerged comfortable 3-0 winners. It was a disappointing performance from the Shakers, and their fans will be hoping for a better display at Gigg Lane against the Baggies.

 

 

West Brom drew 1-1 with managerless Newcastle United in their first game of the new Championship season. WBA went ahead at the Hawthorns through Shelton Martis' 39^th minute goal, only for the Magpies to respond with an excellent team goal fifteen minutes later.

West Brom had quite a few opportunities to make the score 2-1, but were denied by Newcastle's young Dutch goalkeeper Tim Krul, a half time substitute for Steve Harper. Last season, West Brom were upset in the second round of the Carling Cup by Hartlepool United. The game ended 1-1 in normal time, but Hartlepool scored twice in extra time to send the Baggies crashing out at Victoria Park.
