The Black Cats have got off to a good start, winning three of their five matches, and currently sit seventh in the league table. Manager Steve Bruce will be pleased with the performances so far but will be aware that his side will have to beat teams which are expected to finish below them in the league table if they are to have any hopes of finishing near the top half of the table. Sunderland secured a comfortable 4-1 win over Hull City last weekend with Darren Bent continuing his impressive form with a brace and Andy Reid scored the third while Kamil Zayatte rounded off the score line with an own goal late in the game.

Burnley on the other hand will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after losing their last two games against Chelsea and Liverpool. Having suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Chelsea before the international break, Burnley were keen to put up an improved performance against last season's runners-up.

However they were unable to prevent yet another heavy defeat as Liverpool cruised to a thumping 4-0 win with Yossi Benayoun scoring a hat trick while Dirk Kuyt grabbed the fourth. The Clarets will be looking to maintain their perfect home record that has seen them secure narrow victories over Everton and Manchester United.
