The Cottagers have shrugged off a difficult start to the season and have now collected seven points from their last three matches to move eighth in the league table. Bobby Zamora scored the only goal of the match last weekend to help his side register narrow win over Sunderland.

With his side scheduled to face Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea in their next three matches, manager Roy Hodgson will be keen to collect all three points against Burnley and consolidate his side’s position inside the top half of the league table. Simon Davies, Andrew Johnson and Dickson Etuhu are all out of action for some considerable time while Diomansy Kamara will not be available for at least another two weeks.

Meanwhile Burnley coach Owen Coyle will be depending on his side’s excellent home form to get them through a tough game this weekend. The Clarets have dropped just five points from seven home games this season and currently sit in a comfortable 13th place in the league table.

Burnley suffered yet another away defeat as they lost 2-0 to Portsmouth last weekend. Hermann Hreidarsson opened the scoring five minutes past the hour mark before Aruna Dindane made amends for his missed penalty in the first half by doubling the lead late in the game.

Martin Paterson is still a week away from regaining his full fitness while Jay Rodriguez is out of action for the rest of the month.
