The Clarets suffered their heaviest defeat so far this season as they lost 5-0 to Spurs with Robbie Keane scoring four goals while Jermaine Jenas was also on target. Coyle admitted that Tottenham deserved the win and said that his side will have to defend better if they are to survive in the league come the end of the season.

With his side scheduled to face Blackburn Rovers, Wigan Athletic and Hull City in their next three matches, Coyle will be hoping that his side hit top form this month and collect as many points as possible and get to a comfortable position near the top half of the table by the end of the hectic Christmas period.

Meanwhile Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish will be hoping that his side will put up an improved performance against their relegation rivals having failed to win in both their matches last season. Both the legs ended in a 1-1 draw last season with Chris McCann and Cameron Jerome on target in this fixture at Turf Moor. Birmingham go into the match following a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Bolton Wanderers last weekend.

Tamir Cohen had given Bolton an early lead in the first half but Kevin Phillips looked to have snatched a point with an equalizer six minutes from the final whistle only for Bolton restore their lead two minutes later thanks to the winner from Chung-yong Lee.
