Four draws and a solitary win have seen Bulgaria drop to the third spot in Group Eight behind Ireland and Italy. They have seven points from five games and although they have played just one game less than the Irish; they trail the latter by five points.

Bulgaria coach Stanimir Stoilov has named 17 players who ply their trade in foreign leagues for this clash. Prime among the names is Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov. Stoilov will hope his stars like Berba and Stiliyan Petrov will help the team get this campaign back on track as they desperately need a win to stay in contention.

Meanwhile Ireland have enjoyed a glorious campaign under new boss Giovanni Trapattoni as they occupy the second spot in the group with 12 points from six games. A win here will give the Irish the top spot in the group ahead of Italy.

Ireland warmed up for this game with a 1-1 draw against Nigeria in a friendly on Saturday with Robbie Keane scoring for them. However he is a doubtful starter for this game as he is struggling with a foot injury.

Goalkeeper Shay Given has a hip injury, while midfielder Glenn Whelan is battling an ankle issue. Darron Gibson has been ruled out of this game with a groin injury. Trapattoni has called up Colin Doyle and Wayne Henderson as cover for the injured Given. Second choice keeper Dean Kiely is also out with an injury.
