After upsetting favourites Spain, the United States could lift their maiden Confederations Cup title if they beat defending champions Brazil in the final in Johannesburg on Sunday. Brazil needed a late free kick from Barcelona full back Dani Alves to beat hosts South Africa in the semifinal. Bafana Bafana kept pace with their more illustrious opponents for most of the game, and came mighty close to causing another major upset in this tournament.

Alves scored minutes after coming as on as a substitute, curling the ball past Itumeleng Khune after Aaron Mokoena had needlessly fouled Ramires on the edge of the box. Kaka, Luis Fabiano and Robinho had a quiet game against South Africa, and coach Dunga will be hoping that they will fire when it matters the most- in the final.

Down and out after being thrashed in their first two group games, the USA have scripted an amazing turnaround. They first sent African champions Egypt out of the tournament by beating Hasan Shehata's men 3-0 in their final group game, and then upset European champions Spain 2-0 in the semifinals.

Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey were the scorers for the USA against Spain. USA fans can sense history in the making against Brazil. They have already knocked out the reigning African and European champions, and could add the South American champions to that list if they beat the Selecao.

Brazil are yet to be defeated in this tournament, and produced a commanding display to beat Bob Bradley's men 3-0 when the two sides met in the group stages.
