Brazil dumped world champions Italy out of the tournament in their last group game, scoring three times in eight minutes to leave the Azzurri stunned. Luis Fabiano scored a brace, and Liverpool defender Andrea Dossena scored an own goal as the Selecao routed Italy in Pretoria.
Brazil's ability to attack quickly on the counter, done so beautifully against both the USA and Italy, would have left South African coach Joel Santana worried. Fabio Cannavaro and Giorgio Chiellini had a tough night against Fabiano, Robinho and co., and South Africa's defenders can expect similar treatment from Dunga's men.
South Africa lost their final group game 2-0 to Spain, but still managed to qualify because Iraq could not get the win they required against New Zealand. Teko Modise and Bernard Parker both spurned good chances for Bafana. Defender Matthew Booth had a good game, and was praised by Spanish star Fernando Torres after the match ended.
Macbeth Sibaya is suspended for South Africa. Red Star Belgrade striker Parker, who scored both the goals against New Zealand, is battling against the clock to be fit after picking up a thigh injury in the final group game against Spain. A lot will again depend on Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar, who is without a doubt South Africa's biggest creative force.
This is the first South African squad to make it to the last four of the Confederations Cup. Can they go one step further and book a spot in the final? Watch live Confederations Cup semifinal- Brazil v South Africa live to find out.
