Braga were surprise runners up in the Portuguese Liga to Benfica last season, finishing ahead of more fancied teams like Sporting CP and FC Porto. Their home form was also excellent as they won fourteen of their fifteen league fixtures at home, with the sole exception being a 0-0 draw against Naval.

Like Braga, Celtic also finished second in their respective league. The Hoops will have to be wary of the threat posed by Braga’s Brazilian winger duo of Alan Silva and Matheus. However while Celtic have plenty of experience in the Champions League, this is Braga’s first shot at glory in the competition.

Braga last played a Scottish side in the form of Craig Levein’s Heart of Midlothian in 2004. The Portuguese outfit struggled to scope with the physical nature of Hearts’ play and went on to lose the tie 5-3 on aggregate.
