Although some would term their win against Schalke as a bit lucky given that the hosts had plenty of chances to bring the game back on level terms in the second half, the fact remains that Bayern are now just one point behind Bayer Leverkusen. Should Leverkusen and surprise joint leaders TSG Hoffenheim falter this weekend, Bayern could go to the top of the Bundesliga. Jurgen Klinsmann could welcome Philipp Lahm back to the first team, with Ze Roberto going back to his more natural midfield position. The goals for Bayern against Schalke came from Italian striker Luca Toni, and France winger Franck Ribery, who has been one of their standout players this season.

 

 

Injury hit Borussia Monchengladbach rode on the back of a double from Marco Marin to beat Arminia Bielefeld 2-1 at the weekend. The result lifted Hans Meyer’s team out of the relegation zone and gives them some breathing space. Gladbach are now fourteenth in the table with ten points, but with Schalke, Leverkusen and Dortmund awaiting them in three of their next four games, chances are that they will be back in the drop zone soon. Thomas Kleine and Jean-Sébastien Jaurès are definite absentees for Gladbach this weekend. As many as nine senior players are currently sidelined, and Meyer has been forced to field young, untested players in order to get eleven players on the field. Johannes van den Berg injured his knee, but may be fit for this game. Steve Gohouri and Patrick Paauwe may also return to the squad this weekend.
