Laurent Blanc’s Bordeaux could make the French title race even more interesting when they host defending champions Olympique Lyon this weekend. Bordeaux have won five of their last six Ligue 1 games, and are peaking at the right time. They have looked more assured than Lyon in their play, and several Bordeaux fans will be hoping for a win at Stade Jacques Chaban-Delmas on Sunday.

Bordeaux beat Auxerre 2-0 last week, with Fernando Menegazzo and Wendel netting in either half. The absence of Fernando Cavenaghi has not hit Bordeaux too badly, and the Argentine could make a return when Bordeaux play Vannes in the Coupe de la Ligue final.

For the first time in seven months, Lyon find themselves in very unfamiliar surroundings. They are second instead of being first, and the likes of Bordeaux, Toulouse, Lille and PSG are hot on their heels. Lyon have won only twice in their last nine games, and with only seven games left in Ligue 1 this season, Claude Puel’s men must regain their consistency soon.

Lyon, who have been champions of France for the last seven years, were held to a draw at home by Monaco last week. Jerko Leko gave Monaco a shock lead before Brazilian Cris levelled the scores. Almost immediately after Cris’ goal, Monaco were back in front thanks to Juan Pablo Pino. Frederic Piquionne had to rescue a point for Lyon ten minutes from time.
