The Blyth Spartans welcome Blackburn Rovers to Croft Park for their FA Cup third round clash on Monday hoping to cause an upset. Catch all the live FA Cup action in the exclusive member’s area on Live Sport Network.

The Spartans have had a dream run in this season's FA Cup after having lost in the third qualifying round last time around. They lost to Gainsborough Trinity last season by a 1-0 margin with Needham scoring the winner in the 68th minute. However this season the Blue Square North side has done extremely well.

 

 

In the second round they were held to a 0-0 draw by Bournemouth before winning a thriller 1-0 in the replay. Dalton took the Blyth Spartans ahead in the 89th minute and they were able to beat a 10-man Bournemouth quite comfortably in the end. Spartans player/assistant manager Graham Fenton is looking forward to this clash as he was a former Rover himself. Fenton has said that Blackburn cannot afford to field a weak side as this will motivate his side even more.

Meanwhile Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce is looking to do precisely that as he wants to test players who have so far not got a chance to showcase their skills on the field. This may mean rest for the likes of Brett Emerton and Roque Santa Cruz. David Dunn is out with injury, while the Rovers have opted to release Robbie Fowler.

 

 

Last season Blackburn were stunned 1-4 by Coventry City in the qualifying phase. Mifsud scored a brace, while Ward and Adebola grabbed a goal each at Ewood Park. David Bentley scored for the Rovers. Allardyce will be keen to avoid a repeat of the same this season, but has admitted his main focus will be survival in the Premier League where the club is lying on the 19th spot.
