Manchester City start what could be an extremely high-pressure season for them with a trip to Ewood Park to take on Blackburn Rovers this weekend. Blackburn on their part would have been happy to have escaped from relegation last season thanks to some good managerial skills from Sam Allardyce. The former Newcastle boss will now be planning to take his team into the top ten, but without the likes of Roque Santa Cruz in the team, it is going to be increasingly difficult to break into that club.

However the Rovers have had some good arrivals notably Chelsea striker Franco di Santo, who is at Ewood Park on a season long loan. Allardyce has also signed striker Nikola Kalinic, who has received a work permit and is likely to start this game.

Manchester City are going to be the most talked about club this season whether for their success or failure on the pitch remains to be seen. Manager Mark Hughes is aware that the Dubai owners will not have infinite patience and will hope his side can at least make it to the top five.

The arrival of Emmaneul Adebayor, Gareth Barry, Kolo Toure, Carlos Tevez and Santa Cruz has strengthened City no end. Hughes has also moved for Joleon Lescott, but looks unlikely to sign him before the window closes shut.

 

 

Last season this fixture ended in a 2-2 draw, which will suit Blackburn very well should it happen on this weekend as well.
