After being crushed 5-0 by Chelsea on Saturday in the Premier League, Blackburn Rovers will be hoping for a better outing when they take on Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough United in the fourth round of the Carling Cup at Ewood Park on Tuesday night. Blackburn were outclassed by Chelsea on Saturday afternoon. The Blues took the lead when Gael Givet put the ball into his own net in the 20^th minute, and then scored four times in sixteen second half minutes to rout Rovers. Frank Lampard scored a brace, with Drogba and Michael Essien scoring the other two goals. Had keeper Paul Robinson not made a few important saves, the score line could easily have become more embarrassing to read.

Rovers beat Nottingham Forest in the third round of the Carling Cup. Benni McCarthy’s 37^th minute free kick ultimately proved to be the difference between the two sides as Forest were made to pay for their profligacy upfront. Forest controlled the game for large periods, and created plenty of chances which they were unable to convert.

Peterborough ended their five game winless run as they beat Scunthorpe United 3-0 on Saturday. Forward George Boyd, making a record 126^th straight appearance for Posh, scored on either side of a Craig Mackail-Smith strike as Darren Ferguson’s men picked up three crucial points and moved out of the Championship relegation zone.

Peterborough are making an appearance in the fourth round of this tournament for the first time in over fifteen years. They upset Newcastle 2-0 at London Road in the third round, with Mackail-Smith and Tom Williams scoring for Posh.
