The Blues will be high on confidence having come close to beating Liverpool in their last game before the international break. Birmingham led by 2-1 after Christian Benitez had nullified David Ngog's 13th minute strike and Cameron Jerome had given them the lead.

However a 71st minute penalty from Steven Gerrard meant both teams had to share the soils. The penalty resulted after the referee deemed Lee Carsley had tripped Ngog in the box. Replays showed that the Frenchman had dived resulting in many players calling him a cheat.

Manager Alex McLeish will hope his side can build on their positive showing in that game and continue to climb atop the table. However the Blues were dealt a blow when it emerged that striker Garry O'Connor i will be sidelined for four months with a groin injury.

Fulham on the other hand will also be keen to build on their 1-1 draw against Wigan prior to the break. Emmerson Boyce gave Wigan the lead in the 13th minute only for Clint Dempsey to equalize from the penalty spot. Fulham manager Roy Hodgson will hope his side get back to winning ways soon. The former Inter Milan boss is negotiating a new deal with the Cottagers and is confident he will be staying at the club for the foreseeable future.
