Benfica qualified for the last 16 of live UEFA Cup in a dramatic manner after beating FC Nurnberg 3-2 on aggregate score. The Portuguese team were down and out in the second leg at the Frankenstadion in Nuremberg following goals from Angelos Charisteas and Ivan Saenko.

However last minute goals from substitutes Oscar Cardozo and Angel Di Maria ensured Benfica went through after having won the first leg 1-0 at Lisbon thanks to a goal from Ariza Makukula. Benfica coach Jose Antonio Camacho will still be without Augustin Binya, who is serving a four-match suspension.

Meanwhile Getafe's first appearance in European club competition is proving memorable after the Spanish side progressed to the last 16 of the UEFA Cup thanks to a 4-1 aggregate win over Greek side AEK Athens.

Getafe coach Michael Laudrup presided over a 1-1 draw at Athens with Ruben de la Red giving the visitors a slender advantage thanks to his away goal. Athens equalized late on courtesy Ismael Blanco to keep their hopes alive. However Getafe won 3-0 at home thanks to goals from Granero, Contra and Braulio.

However Getafe will be without central defender Mario Alvarez for this tie after he strained a thigh muscle in a domestic game against Real Madrid. Alvarez is likely to be out for one month.
