Belarus v Netherlands LiveBelarus will be playing for pride when they welcome Netherlands to Dinamo stadium in Minsk in their final Euro 2008 qualifier on Wednesday. However a 4-2 win away at Albania will have given Belarus the confidence that they can compete at this level.
A poor run of form midway through the Euro 2008 qualifying campaign saw Belarus drop out of the race as they suffered five straight defeats which saw them drop down to 6th in the group table. However the team finally managed to chalk up a convincing performance in the victory over Albania as Vitaly Kutuzov and Maxim Romashchenko bagged two goals each in either half to take their team to a 4-2 win on the weekend.
Belarus have collected 10 points from 11 games so far and could go as high as fourth in the table if they manage to beat Netherlands and other results go their way.
Meanwhile with qualification to Euro 2008 finals in the bag, Netherlands coach Marco van Basten will be looking to try out his fringe players in the final match of the campaign. Danny Koevermans scored the only goal of the match as the Dutch huffed and puffed on the way to victory against Luxembourg on Saturday.
The win leaves them in second position with 26 points from 11 matches, level on points with Romania who enjoy a superior goal difference.
