After seeing their hopes of qualifying for the next round of the Champions League severely dented by a loss to Bordeaux on Tuesday night, Bayern Munich face Schalke at home in Round 12 of the German Bundesliga. Goals from Yoann Gourcuff and Marouane Chamakh allowed French champions Bordeaux to beat Bayern 2-0 in France on Match Day 4. Les Girondins booked their spot in the last sixteen with the win, but also left Bayern with a mountain to climb. Louis Van Gaal’s men have just four points from four games, and are four points behind second placed Juventus with two games to play.

Bayern’s performance on the pitch improved when Arjen Robben was introduced and Van Gaal will be desperately hoping that his star winger is fit enough to start against Schalke. The Royal Blues are yet to suffer defeat on the road, and have won four out of their five trips away from the Veltins Arena in the league. They are currently fourth in the table with 21 points, just two behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Schalke were up against Leverkusen last week, and Felix Magath’s side produced another late comeback to pick up a point against the Werkself. Leverkusen lead 2-0 at the break thanks to goals from Toni Kroos and Stefan Kiebling, but late strikes from Kevin Kuranyi and Vicente Sanchez allowed Schalke to escape with a point.
