After getting off to their worst Bundesliga start in 43 seasons, German giants Bayern Munich will hope to turn the corner when they meet defending champions Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena on Saturday evening. Bayern were upset by newly promoted Mainz in their last Bundesliga game. Midfielder Andreas Ivanschitz put Mainz ahead on 25 minutes, and striker Aristide Bance added the second thirteen minutes later. Mainz defender Nikolce Noveski scored an own goal in the 47th minute, but the home side held on to record a famous 2-1 victory.

Bayern looked short on ideas without influential playmaker Franck Ribery, and Louis van Gaal made two changes in the first half itself to turn the game on its ahead. Unfortunately for him, his side were not able to stage a comeback. Bayern chairman Karl Heinz Rummenigge has admitted that the situation is "serious". Pressure is growing on new coach Van Gaal to get Bayern back to winning ways.

Wolfsburg suffered their first defeat of the season on Sunday as they were beaten 4-2 by Bruno Labbadia's Hamburger SV. Armin Veh chose to start with Jan Simunek in defence, and it proved to be a mistake as HSV raced to a 2-0 lead in the first seven minutes. Simunek was replaced by Alexander Madlung seven minutes before half time.

Strikes from Zvjezdan Misimovic and Obafemi Martins allowed Wolfsburg to draw level, but HSV showed why they must not be taken lightly late in the game. Goals from Mladen Petric and Romeo Castelen gave the visitors a surprise 4-2 win, and condemned Wolfsburg to their first league loss of the new season.
